Poodle memorial gifts

Poodles break two of the assumptions the rest of this site runs on. First, they barely shed — so the fur keepsake, which is the obvious second piece for most breeds, is not the obvious one here. Second, the silhouette changes with the clip, which means the photo has to show the dog as you actually remember them, not as the groomer last left them.

What suits a poodle

Size and weight	Toy and miniature (2–7kg) take the S tag — 2.5cm, 6g. Standards (20–32kg) take the XL. The L sits in the middle for a moyen.
The coat	Curly, dense, and it holds almost nothing on a brush. If you want a fur piece, collect what the clippers leave rather than waiting for shedding that will not come.
The photo	The clip decides the portrait. A dog in a full show trim and the same dog in a short pet clip are two different silhouettes — send the photo that matches how you think of them.

Before you order: the photo

Shoot the face, not the trim. The topknot and the ears carry the likeness; the body clip is secondary.
Watch the eyes under the fringe. Poodle eyes hide under hair. A photo where both eyes are visible is worth more than a prettier one where they are not.
Daylight, no flash. Curly coat plus flash equals a mass of white highlights with no shape underneath.
One photo per clip, if you have them. We will ask which one is the dog you remember.

For a poodle, the honest recommendation is usually a portrait piece rather than a fur piece — there is simply not the fur to work with. Tell us the size and we will point at the right one.

Questions people ask

Can I still do a fur keepsake for a poodle?

Yes, if you have clippings or brush-out. The chamber takes a pinch, and a poodle's curl reads well in it. But do not expect to collect it after the fact from a coat that has already gone.

Toy poodle — is 2.5cm too small?

It is the right size for the collar. The trade-off is detail: at 6g you get the topknot, the ears and the eyes, not the curl.

Do you do the poodle clip in the portrait?

The portrait follows the photo. If the photo shows a continental clip, that is what gets made — we do not re-stylise.
