Pet memorial necklaces

By Eidon, EveryBeloved · October 2026 · 3 min read

A necklace is the most common form this category takes, and for a simple reason: it is the only format that stays in contact with you all day without requiring you to do anything. A plaque sits on a shelf. A keychain lives in a pocket. A necklace is worn.

We make two, and they hold different things.

One holds a photo, one holds fur

The photo pendant is a disc with your animal's face on it, worked from a photograph you send. It is the direct option — you see them, in the way you saw them in the picture you chose.

The woven locket holds a pinch of fur behind the face rather than on it. If you kept a clipping from a brush, a groomer or the vet, this is the format that uses it. The fur is not visible; the locket is. What it changes is your knowledge of what is inside, which is most of the point.

If you have both a good photo and fur, the honest answer is that it is a matter of which one you want to look at. Most people choose the photo and put the fur in a keychain.

Chain length, practically

16 inches sits at the collarbone and is the length most people end up wearing daily. 18 inches hangs just below it and works better over a shirt. Anything longer tends to swing forward when you lean over, which is why pendants on 24-inch chains are usually worn outside clothing rather than against skin.

If you are choosing for someone else and do not know their preference, 18 inches is the safer default — it sits outside most necklines rather than inside them.

Wearing it every day

A pendant that is worn daily takes wear: it picks up skin oils, it sits against fabric, it gets caught on seat belts. Solid metal handles this by developing a patina. Plated metal does not — the high points go first, usually within a year.

Two habits that make a difference: take it off before showering if the piece has a woven or fabric element, and do not store it loose in a bag with keys, where the face scratches.

If you are not sure it is the right form

A necklace is the wrong gift for someone who does not already wear one. In that case a keychain or a tag that goes on their existing keys will actually get used, and a pendant will sit in a drawer. We would rather you chose the second one.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between the two necklaces?
The photo pendant carries a photograph of your pet on the face. The woven locket carries a pinch of fur behind the face — the fur is not visible, but it is inside.
What chain length should I choose?
16 inches sits at the collarbone and is the most common daily choice. 18 inches hangs below it and sits outside most necklines, which makes it the safer default when buying for someone else.
Can I wear it in the shower?
Solid metal is fine to get wet. Take it off if the piece has a woven or fabric element, and avoid chlorinated pools either way.
I kept some of my pet's fur — can it go in the photo pendant?
Not the photo pendant. The woven locket is the piece built for that; if you want both, most people put the photo on a necklace and the fur in a keychain.
